Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.

January 11, 2010

Do you ever have those “Let’s call the whole thing off” days?  Where you just can’t seem to get a handle on the day, everyone seems to be speaking in a different language, and you feel like you’re clawing at the walls within?

Well, I’m having one of those days and I’m feeling like it’s time to hit the reset button…

Ah, that’s more like it.

Happy Monday!

Blogs that Inspire

November 20, 2009

Okay, I know what you’re thinking… two posts in one day? How could we be so lucky.  Well, I know I’ve been lacking in posts and I haven’t really been posting anything about the house lately, but this weekend Alex and I are finally going to attack the office.  We’re planning it out on Saturday and hopefully, we’ll be able to hit up IKEA and Target on Sunday.

All this house excitement has really got me searching for inspiration and I thought I’d share a few blogs that inspire me in the “home decor” sector:

Desire to Inspire – “Kim and Jo have never met but there is a bond between them that is so strong that it can cross half the world and back again. You see Kim and Jo are interior design junkies. They go weak at the knees when they find that perfect room and they just have to share. It all started towards the end of 2006. They met on Flickr, shared images they had bookmarked and well that was that. Desire to Inspire was born.”

Home Sweet Home – This blog is a sort of hub for photos in the blogosphere.  You can submit photos, or just subscribe for your daily dose of home eye candy.

Whelp, that’s all for me today, get inspired!

The Old Painted Cottage

September 3, 2009

How many of you saw the amazing before and after feature on Design*Sponge today?  I’m completely floored.  It’s marvelous and inspired.  In fact, her kitchen is exactly what I want, EXACTLY.  I priced it out at IKEA the other day actually and it would only cost us about $4,000.  I can smell that crisp tax return coming…

I wish I could show you all the images, but they are copyright protected so you’ll need to check them out for yourself.

More Photos

Okay, okay… I just had to share some more photos of Creswell’s room.  I had such a fun time helping her organize it and add some cute touches to her already amazing room.  Honestly, most of the hard work was done already.  I just organized the closet by color, cleaned everything out, made some poms, and helped her spiffy everything up a bit.

Check out some of our hard work:

She MADE that headboard!

Vinatge green chair and vintage dresser.

Teacup succulents and thrift-ed birdcage.

Make-up center and color coordinated clothes! I’m drooling.

That mirror used to be in her kitchen but then the mirror fell out so she turned the frame into the headboard for her bed.  And set up the mirror on the opposite end of the room. Genius.

She MADE this, but I have first dibs on her next one.

Fun collage we made over the bed.

Houspiration

August 14, 2009

I don’t know why I made up the word, but I did.  This post is all about housepiration (aka inspiration for the house).  It could be my house, your house, your mom’s house… but mostly its going to be about things that I would like for my house.

OK, Trever gave me a link that contained photos of different inspiring rooms in a bunch of houses.  Some are from Dominio (RIP) and others that I’m not to sure of, so if you know the sources, please let me know!  Here are just a few of my favorites from his 325 photo collection:

I love how conversational this room is.  I don’t want my living room to revolve around the television, I want it to be a place of rest and fellowship.

TOB+interior

I love the cool natural colors here, the grid-like patterns, but also the sort of accelecticness.

Okay, so I debated this one.  I love the copper, the yellow, and the white, but I’m not a huge fan of the floor.  Just imagine a wood floor and maybe a subtle white stripe.

Again, a very conversational room.  I think the problem we may run into is that our home doesn’t have a fireplace, so we’ll need something to harness the room and bring it all together.  I love the stark contrast of the one dark wall.

What do you think? I’m sensing a liking to yellow here…

I love the serenity of the blue, with the bright punch of orange here.

I am totally feeling the light green and rustic brown in this room.

Don’t ask me why, but I have always wanted something like this… I just love it.  I think it’s the mix of country and chic.

Foto Friday…

Happy Friday Readers!

I wanted to share with you two photos that inspired me today.  I’m loving the color palate for both of these and I’m especially loving that outfit.  Maybe I’ll be doing a project like this first photo in our new place!

Thank You!

August 6, 2009

Hello my Happy Readers!

I just wants to stop by today and say a quick and heartfelt thank you to all of you who left me comments on my Home Sweet Home post yesterday. Alex and I are are so excited to get this process started.  We were at our mortgage broker’s office until about 7:20 last night starting the escrow papers.  Boy, its a lot of stuff to sign; but we couldn’t be more excited to do so!

Since we’ve found out about getting the house, our minds have been swirling with ideas for renovations and decor.  We’ve started makings lists and gathering tons of inspiration.  I think the task we are most excited about is the kitchen.

House_5

We can’t wait to rearrange it all and make it completely amazing.  We’d really like to add some modern elements to it, while keeping the older charm.

One main inspiration blog we’ve found that accomplishes this task VERY well is Young House Love.   Sherry and John bought there first house and fell in love; and while ours doesn’t need as much renovating as theirs did, the hard work they put into it is truly inspired.  Here are a few of the renovations they did that truly inspire me:

Here is there kitchen (before).  Ours is by no means this bad, but look at what they were able to do with it…

Can you believe the transformation?! I’m completely speechless.  And would it make you just die to find out that these two have NO TRAINING or EXPERTISE what-so-ever?!  They are just two truly inspired people loving their first house.

Young House Love

July 27, 2009

Happy Monday, Ya’ll!

Have I introduced you to Young House Love, yet?

headerbg_yhl1

Its a fabulous blog about about a couple who love their new home.  They talk through renovations, life experiences, have fab freebies, and are just plain cute.  Here’s an intro:

3759827177_d0a34b056b

“I’m Sherry Petersik. He’s my husband John. We’re 27. Our house is 53. It’s old enough to be our parent, but we treat it like it’s our baby.

It’s our first home, and it’s located in Richmond, Virginia. When we bought it in 2006, we were coming off of a combined 8-years of living in Manhattan. Having 1,350 sq. ft to play with seemed like quite a luxury. The only problem: the house definitely showed its age.

Armed with a little bit of know-how and a lot of enthusiasm, we didn’t waste a second gettin’ down to business. After three years the list of what we did is too long to bother with (a few highlights: installing a pedestal sink, two toilets, countless new light fixtures, knocking out a half wall, uncovering tile and hardwood under grody carpets, etc). Trust us when we say that it was certainly a lot of work, time, and satisfaction upon completion.

To date we’ve added a slew of new skills to our metaphorical toolbox (need help refinishing your cabinets?) and even some new equipment to our literal toolbox (drywall saw, anyone?). Our DIY prowess even carried over to our backyard wedding (it’s only fitting that we got married at home).

Somewhere along the way we even started helping other people transform their homes. And in June of 2008, we put my Bachelor of Fine Arts and John’s Communications degree to use and opened up our very own shop full of original and affordable prints for the masses. We’ve also been recruited to write a regular column in a national glossy mag: Better Homes & Garden’s Do It Yourself Magazine. We even managed to fit in an HGTV appearance when our bedroom was picked as an “inspiration room” on Rate My Space and we squeezed in a fun little house tour video for thenest.com.

Now it’s just a matter of finding enough hours in the day to keep up with our ever growing to-do list while keeping you posted along the way. We hope you enjoy our continued adventures (and misadventures) in DIY decor and home improvement. Stay tuned…” – Young House Love

Oh Joy & DwellStudio Contest

June 24, 2009

Two weeks ago, Oh Joy! posted a contest with DwellStudio.  You had to pick one of the dwell items, your favorite article of clothing and pair them up.  Then Joy would select her favorite.  I, of course, took it a step further and created a Polyvore with my favorite bedding set from dwell and an entire outfit.  Mine was not picked as the winner, but I thought I’d share it with you to enjoy:

Polyvore Creations

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but have you tried Polyvore

I know for sure I’m not using it to it’s full capacity, but did you know you can type in pretty much anything and find an image that links back to a store or site where you can purchase said item?! Not only that, but you can add the “clip to polyvore” link to your browser; that way, if you see something you want to create using Polyvore, you can and others can too!

Happy Thursday!
