I’ve Never… Made Something Just for Me

March 30, 2010

Hello Readers,

This week’s “I’ve Never” stems from a conversation I had with a dear friend, Keleigh. Last week we got together and just chatted for an hour over sushi about life and being creative. She encouraged me in my rut to make something… just for me. It felt so freeing and I started to remember how much I love creating things.

I love you all so much, but it really felt so great to so something just for me. So, forgive me if I don’t turn this into a DIY for you or show you some of the steps. This project was just for me.

Happy Tuesday!!

Picnic in the Park with P&P

March 29, 2010

I told you last week about how Alex Creswell and I went thrift store shopping and that we ended it with a picnic.  Well, Alex (of Pipe & Pepper) posted about our pretty picnic and I thought I’d share some of her beautiful photos with you.

We grabbed stuff from our respective houses, added in a little of our thrift store shopping items, a splash of Trader Joe’s delectables, and went to Tenaja Falls, Temecula CA.  We worked together to style the picnic and then shot for a while.  It was just about sunset and the lighting was perfect.

After we finished shooting, we just sat and enjoyed the sunsets and all the goodies.  It was so nice to just catch up!

This week’s photo is brought to you by me.

First of, yes… this is a PC, and no it is not mine.  I grabbed this screen shot from my work computer this morning realizing… oh my goodness.  I have a life.  It’s a crazy busy one.  But hey… it’s ours (my husband’s and mine).

If you ever want to be apart of it. Just give me a call… I’ll pencil you in.

I’ve Never… Recovered a Lamp Shade

March 25, 2010

Okay, I know it might not be very exciting, but like I said… start small and work my way up to something big.  I’m starting to remember why I’m passionate about crafting and thrifting.  It’s so freeing and accomplishing.

For me anyway, creation stems from necessity and I really needed some new lampshades.  I have these old faded ones from IKEA (we got them right after we got married – 2 years ago), and they needed a little punch of Anthropologie, without the price tag.

I set out to turn these dingy, old, green lamps shades into some ruffly anthropologiesque ones.  Here’s a bit of the process.

This part was a total pain!  I even broke the lamp shade a little.  Oops.

I had about 7 strips of ruffle total.  I wanted to do 5, but I measured wrong. Oh, well… that’s what this is about right?

Ah, finally placing the ruffle on.  I almost forgot the whole thing and just made an awesome skirt, but I knew I needed to finish it!

The whole process took about 3 hours, but it was a lesson in trial and error.  It was extremely fun and I love the finished product. Check out how awesome it looks on my bed side table?

Check back for next week’s “I’ve Never…

You’ve probably all seen this lovely shop, Emersonmade making its way around the blogeshpere. But I wanted to share with you some of the reasons I love her shop.

First off, Emerson is just down right fabulous.  I love that her personality shines through her brand.  I also love that her staff takes such great care to hand craft and dye every one of her flower pieces.  She’s quirky, funny, and lovely.

What I love most about her is that she’s one of those who’s thrown caution to the wind and started something great. “In 2008 Emerson and R [her hubby] left the New York City for a farm with green pastures, this is where the EmersonMade Hens and Ducks reside also!”

I mean come on… isn’t she fabulous?

The Anderson’s

March 23, 2010

One unique piece I found on our thrfiting adventure this weekend was a framed cross-stitch.  I didn’t share it with you earlier, because I purchased it as a gift for a friend.  She should have it now, so I can share this fun piece with you!

“The Anderson’s Try Our Famous Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich”

Don’t you just love the type? So fun.

Friend and designer Jessica Anderson, this one’s for you!

Happy Tuesday!

2 Girls, A Map & A Thriftstore

March 22, 2010

Good Morning Readers!

If you all kept up with my tweets this weekend, you saw that I went thrifting with my dear friend, Alex Creswell.  It was pretty ambitious of us to decide on Friday that we were going to hit up thrift stores in the Temecula area , when we’d never been to any in Temecula,  but it turned out to be an amazing adventure!

Two of the four thrift stores were closed, but we weren’t dismayed.  We searched for local Goodwills and Salvation Armys and were pleasantly surprised!

I found all this and only spent about $17.

A pedestal dessert tray.

A silver and glass pitcher.

Ivory colored unity candle holder.

Stone mounted dog bust.

A three-tiered dessert tray.

I love everything that I was able to get and had a blast doing it! What are you doing this next weekend?  Why not get together with some of your girlfriends, get a googlemap of local thrift stores, and find some unique pieces?!

You won’t regret it.

Happy Monday!

I’ve Never… Seen Jerry Maguire

March 18, 2010

I know, I know. There’s something wrong with me.  How can I be a product of the 80’s and grown up never been privy to this amazing 90’s movie?

I have no idea.  Maybe I wasn’t raised right (just kidding Mom).

Never the less,  I’ve never seen Jerry Maguire.  That is, until last night.

It was completely amazing (minus some of the awkward parts – ahem ::shifts uncomfortably in seat::).

Why don’t they make more movies like this ?  It’s up there with Elizabethtown for me (and if you know me, you know I could watch that movie every single day).

This guy Jerry is working a high-stress job and gets inspired to rewrite all the rules of running the business.  She sends out a mission statement to his entire office, and then gets fired.  The whole movie is his quest to remember that you should be passionate about what you do and how you live your life.

To be honest, this movie is what inspired my new series.  I’m striving to be inspired enough to throw caution to the wind and go for it.

“Who’s with me?”

I’ve Never…

March 18, 2010

I’m itching to try some new things.  So here we go! I’m starting a series here since I’ve been saying how I’m feeling uninspired lately.

The new series is called, “I’ve Never…”

Every week I’m going to do something I’ve never done before.  I’m thinking I’ll start small and work my way up to some big things.  But I’m going to need your help finding new things to try.

Leave me a comment and tell me what you think I should try next week.  Now, remember… I’m going to start small and work my way up to something big.  I don’t know what that is yet, but I’m open to suggestions.

And check back later for this week’s “I’ve Never…”

Crafter’s Itch

March 17, 2010

I’ve totally got the sickness – Crafter’s Itch!  I’m starving for some fabric flowers, twine, beads, butcher paper, fabric, scraps… ANYTHING!

I’m so busy right now,  that I haven’t had much time to craft so I’m dying here! Lucky for me, the girls at AnthroLove are wanting to get together this weekend for a craft day.  So, I guess this eye candy will just have to do until this weekend.

Pray I can make it through!

Happy Wednesday!
