“The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?”

I read this yesterday and it just struck me. There is so much responsibility given to those in leadership, not only in our churches, but in our places of business. How much more then, do we need to hold them accountable and test them… proving their worthiness to receive our trust and respect?
This changed my perspective as a person of “power” and as one who is supervised over. While I may not have the authority to speak over my superiors, it doesn’t mean I can’t hold myself accountable.
Heavy, but extremely important.

Really good. Really relevant right now (well, always relevant, but you know what I mean). I think that level of accountability gets overlooked a lot. I guess that’s why exhortation is such an important gift. Thanks for sharing.
